Where to find us

Incidental Imagery are back with added vitamins

The ‘Incidental Imagery’ group of artists are back with more exciting artistry. Six artists will be exhibiting together at Bishopsteignton Scout Hut 13-21 September. On offer will be a delicious mix of quirky and serious contemporary art with artily inviting refreshments.

The wonderfully eclectic collection will include chocolate torsos, taps dripping in ‘stone’, mouth watering silk cushions, photographic goodies, wantworthy copper, slate and silver jewellery and a dolly mix of plastic sculpture.

The exhibition will give a broad spectrum of visual stimulus. Ruth Smith offers a canoe eye on nature, Jane Baker ‘s sculptures include tantalising edible art and Jan O’Highways’ fluorescent heads and medical scans tease the senses. Vicki Gardner’s photographs are vibrant, textural and close-up, Luci Coles’ paintings and sculptures are tactile, sensuous and monumental and Gill Greatorex’s environmental quilts, mud paintings and felt fungi virtually growing. To welcome you in, there will be a colourful courtyard of art including a large nautical flavour sculpture made out of over 5,000 plaited plastic bags by the Bishopsteignton Outdoor Art Group.

Not only a visual feast, but also on offer are unusual refreshments which aspire to becoming art forms in their own right. All day tea, cakes and arty tarts in whacky surroundings will be a treat not to miss whilst you are on the Open Studios trail and it will be hard to resist satisfying both the stomach and the senses. “Absolutely gorgeous”, “Quirky and very different exhibits”, “Fires the imagination”, “Delightfully unusual”, Delicious in every way”were some of the visitors’ verdicts last year.

Incidental Imagery is open 10-5pm as part of Devon Open Studios 13-21 September, at Bishopsteignton Scout Hut, Radway Hill, Bishopsteignton (near Teignmouth). Contact GillGreatorex 01626 779628. Open Studio trail maps are available at Tourist Information Centres. We are no. 105 on the Teignbridge 1 Trail 6.
