Trail Recycled Art In Landscape TRAIL2008 will feature a variety of works made out of all sorts of household and commercial refuse and reclaimed materials, by 44 artists, children, and Community groups.

An eco-friendly garden built in memory of vanished Devon geologist Jason Pope will host the launch of this year’s exhibition of environmental sculptures on the South West Coast Path.

Jason, 26, disappeared following an armed raid on an Angolan diamond mine in 1998. His family have constructed Jason’s Garden near his family home on the cliffs close to Teignmouth as both a memorial to him and as a place of reflection for others.

The garden has been designed to the highest green standards and as such is the perfect place to launch TRAIL – an open air and indoor exhibition of sculptures made from recycled materials promoting environmental messages.

Genevra (‘Nev’), Jason’s mother, explained: “We started constructing the garden in honour of Jason but we also want to share it with others and see it put to good community and charitable uses.

“We have been careful to make sure everything we have done is very green so we have re-used old red sandstone, paving bricks, granite sets and plaques, old roofing slates, concrete ‘test’ cores, abandoned plinths, chosen drought resistant plants, collected rainwater, laid second hand plastic grass and harnessed the sun’s energy via solar panels.

“TRAIL is a great way of getting across green messages in an eye-catching manner to all ages, so we are only too pleased Jason’s Garden will host the launch and be the temporary home to some of the new sculptures.”

Thousands of walkers on the South West Coast Path between Dawlish and Shaldon will be able to see the works for themselves from 20th July 2008 to 7th September 2008 …….There will also be exhibitions at Tomorrow’s Teignmouth and Carlton Theatre between 10th August and 7th September
