Five artists from INCIDENTAL IMAGERY are back with more exciting artistry, this time with an environmental twist.
On offer at 39 East Street is a delicious mix of quirky and serious contemporary art and crafts….plus Xmas gifts.
In the gallery upstairs there is the book of ‘Devon Rarities’ photographed by Vicki Gardener, tactile jewellery and sculptures by Luci Coles, extinction installations and a homage to milkmen by Gill Greatorex, thought-provoking transition sculptures by Jane Baker, and collectable dynamic digital prints by Jan O’Highway.
Jane describes her work as “The Wow of Now”, exploring themes of sustainable hope in her ‘Because I’m Worth It’ suitcase art, whilst Gill ponders on what will happen to the incidentals of life as our climate changes. Vicki is concerned with endangered and rare local species and Luci explores “recreating habitats and environments using the things that are discarded”. Jan’s dramatic prints are created by using a desk-top scanner as a macro lens “the scanner’s intense light-beam reveals the exquisite fragile detailing in our everyday world, from battered old toys to just-picked violets…”.
A visual feast, and also mental stimulation; Incidental Imagery exhibits gently nudge the visitor to consider the environment.
“Absolutely gorgeous”, “Quirky and very different”, “Fires the imagination”, “Delightfully unusual”, Delicious in every way” were some of previous years visitors’ verdicts.
